Do you want to relax knowing the future of your family is secure? We all want to know that our family will be protected and safe when we are no longer around. The Associates at Advanced Estate Planning are passionate about providing solutions to keep your hard-earned money in your family where it belongs! If you’re going to trust someone to protect your family, you want to make sure you’ve hired the right professional. That’s why I want to take a moment to introduce myself and my family to you.
When I was born in 1975, my father knew he needed to provide for his family. Once he decided on his career, he pursued it with vigor. He often put me in my high chair and practiced as though I was a new client. I think he had a family business in his sights then. Foster City, CA is where I grew up and the community knew my father as a dedicated soccer coach and well-respected President of Little League. Serving our community has always been important to my family.
When I was 14 years old, my father realized that I was a chip of the old block and he gave me a job doing data entry in the office. By the time I was 19, I had developed a passion for working with seniors. My grandparents did not live nearby, so my Dad’s clients became special. Our family often stopped by a client's house to help out. Sometimes it was dropping off a meal or fixing a screen door, but they were now a part of our family, and I loved that feeling.
Unfortunately, my family and I experienced a personal tragedy on August 31st, 1999. While serving in the US Army, I received a call from Headquarters with an emergency message. My beloved little brother, Adam Wayne Plemons, was killed in a horrific car crash in San Diego at the age of 18. This had a profound effect on my family.
We quickly realized that all the money and all the material things we had didn't make it any better. Because of my father’s blood, sweat, and tears, we were better off financially than most people, but it didn't comfort us. Because my father had proper planning in place, he was able to take the time he needed to grieve. Due to my brother's death and an injury sustained in basic training, my father convinced me to come back home and help him get back to work in the family business.
Six short years afterwards, my father was diagnosed with throat cancer. This was beyond devastating for me, because my dad was my hero. My dad was one of the strongest people I’d ever met. I was sure he would beat the cancer and he did. On Friday May 27th, 2005 he received the news that he was cancer free. That Sunday, after dinner, while working on his boat in Ensenada, Mexico, he had an issue with his medication, which caused his throat to seize. He died right there, in my mother's arms. Sadly, my mother's grief consumed her, and on August 21st, 2011, just 10 days before the anniversary of my brother's passing, I lost her as well.
Not only have I grown up in this business, I’ve also experienced the business. In addition to being a Certified Estate Planner™ and Certified Medicaid Planner™, my financial planning background, and being a Registered Legal Document Assistant, I understand the logistical needs and emotional toll it all takes on a person. I know how to make the experience that much easier for you. I’m dedicated to using my knowledge, years of experience, and network of professionals to protect your family from the most difficult of times. Our motto at Advanced Estate Planning is: family comes first, serve the community, be honest, fair, act with integrity, and be EXCELLENT at what you do.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope you can sense my level of commitment to my craft, family, and community.
